The Lewis Initiative at Babson College

Mark AlbionThe founder of Net Impact, Mark Albion will be speaking about – How do you build a business and a career that reflect your values? Interviewing 75 values-based business leaders, I discovered that they think differently and lead differently—rarely manifest in a singular visionary decision—but rather in many small ways and daily decisions that all add up to make a big difference. We will discuss the three characteristics and the five best practices of this brand of “conscious-capitalism” leadership.

Date and time: Thursday, December 3, 6:15 – 7:30 PM
Location: Wilder Pavilion
RSVP: Raj Sisodia, Professor of Marketing, rsisodia@bentley.edu

To excel in business today, you need to not only engage your employees and your customers, you need to delight and inspire them. Too often in business the phrase, “Our people are our best asset” ignores the “people” part and focuses on the “asset.” By rejecting the old binary thinking of “management vs. employee”, and “company or customer” you can create an environment that nurtures and grows all constituents. It is possible to create a company that delivers apparently contradictory results: high touch, wow customer experiences; world class, sustainable product values; superior compensation and working environment for employees; and best in class bottom line results.

He will present examples of three specific values and their applications: Integrity, Least harm, and “May it benefit the most, may the majority be happy.” He will discuss the principles and practices of a value-based leadership system, and emphasize the need for applying a holistic Systems Thinking approach to business leadership.
