Boston Red Sox vs. Baltimore Orioles

Saturday, September 26, 2015

On Saturday I had the pleasure of going to watch the Red Sox play the Orioles at Fenway Park. As a Boston native, the experience itself was not new to me. I am familiar with the ins and outs of the park and its rich history. I know the spots locals go to before the game and where to meet up after to celebrate a hard fought Red Sox victory. Despite all of that, I went into this game with a fresh pair of eyes and a rekindled excitement for the magic of Fenway.

Attending the game with the GSA was a terrific experience and one that I will never forget. The International presence in Bentley’s graduate programs means that every event attracts a diverse crowd. It was a thrill to watch a baseball game with people who have never watched the sport on television let alone attended a game in person. Everyone’s excitement was palpable and I couldn’t help feeling a little bit like it was my first game as well. Explaining the rules of the game to those who were unfamiliar and walking them through a myriad of Fenway traditions (including my best bad rendition of Sweet Caroline), brought me back to the time when my dad was doing the same for me. As a local it is easy to forget how lucky I am to call this city my home.

To add icing to the cake, Red Sox won 8-0!
