GSA President

The President shall be the Chief Executive Officer of GSA and provide leadership for the planning and executing of a slate of activities and initiatives to serve the graduate student population. Specific duties outlined below:

  • Oversee the direction and actions of the GSA and its officers.
  • Call, conduct and preside over all Executive Board meetings and Leadership Council
  • Oversee the allocation of student activity fees in conjunction with the Executive Board
  • Work with the Treasurer in the formation, execution, and monitoring of the GSA budget.
  • Oversee the work of other officers and committees.
  • Represent the graduate students as a voting member of the Graduate council or designate another GSA member to do so.
  • Serve as the Graduate Student Representative on the Board of Trustees Student Affairs Committee or designate another GSA member to do so.
  • Serve as the Graduate Student Representative on the Board of Trustees Academic Affairs Committee or designate another GSA member to do so.
  • Attend and represent graduate students at other Board of Trustees meetings as deemed necessary or designate other GSA members to do so.
  • Appoint special committees by order of the GSA and by discretion.
  • Appoint GSA representatives to campus-wide governance and administrative committees, task forces and other projects.
  • Serve as an ex-officio member of all GSA committees.
  • Meet with the following Administrators as needed:
    • Dean of GraduateSchool
    • Assistant Dean of the Graduate School
    • Bentley College Vice President of Student and Administrative Services.
    • Manager of Student Activities as deemed necessary.
    • Bentley College President as deemed necessary.
    • Alumni Association as deemed necessary
  • Attend events sponsored by the GSA
  • Represent the GSA at events or programs sponsored by other student organizations or college offices as deemed necessary.

Senior Vice President

The Senior Vice President shall serve as the number two executive officer of the GSA and shall have the following duties:

  • Exercise the duties and powers of the President during the absence or the incapacitation of the President or by the request of the President.
  • Serve on the Executive Board and attend all meetings.
  • Oversee the allocation of the Graduate student activity fees in conjunction with the Executive Board.
  • Work with the Treasurer and the President in forming, executing and monitoring the GSA budget.
  • Serve as an ex-officio member of all GSA committees.
  • Represent the graduate students as a voting member of the Graduate Council if designated to do so by the President.
  • Represent the graduate students as a voting member of the Faculty Senate if designated to do so by the President.
  • Serve as the Graduate Student Representative on the Board of Trustees Student Affairs Committee if designated to do so by the President.
  • Attend and represent graduate students at other Board of Trustees meetings if designated to do so by the President.
  • Meet regularly with the Dean of Graduate School as requested by the President.
  • Represent the GSA at events sponsored by other student organizations or college officers as deemed necessary.
  • Attend events sponsored by the GSA whenever possible.
  • Meet with the manager of Student Activities when deemed necessary.
  • Meet regularly with the Assistant Dean of Graduate School as requested by the President.
  • Work with the Vice President of Operations, Communication and Events as necessary and be held responsible for carrying out the duties of the above three officers in their absence or in the absence of any other GSA Board officers.
  • Maintain at least one scheduled office hour per week.
  • Work with the Vice President of Events to ensure that all the operational needs of any planned event are met.Reserve space on campus for the Lunch and Dinner Connections, Master Class Breaks, and any other meetings and events organized by the GSA.
  • Act as a liaison to the campus food service contractor (Marriott) and ensure that the proper food service is provided for all GSA scheduled events.Oversee the reservation of and set up of any equipment (e.g., chairs, tables, podium, audio-visual equipment, etc.) required for GSA meetings and events.Ensure that any organizations newly recognized by the GSA understand College policies and procedures regarding (1) the reservation of equipment and space on campus, (2) the use of space and equipment, and (3) the provision of food and alcohol at college activities and events.
  • Act as a liaison with GSA recognized organizations concerning changes to the College policies and procedures regarding (1) the reservation of equipment and space on campus, (2) the use of space and equipment, and (3) the provision of food and alcohol at college activities and events.

Treasurer

The GSA Treasurer shall serve as the Chief Financial Officer of the GSA and shall have the following duties:

  • Serve as a member of the Executive Board and attend all meetings
  • Oversee the allocation of student activity fees in conjunction with the Executive Board.
  • Oversee and take primary responsibility for the formation, execution, and monitoring of the GSA budget under the guidance and approval of the President and Senior Vice President.
  • Provide regular reports to the Executive Board on the status of the GSA budget.
  • Serve as controller of all GSA funds, and in so doing, be responsible for the collection and disbursement of all GSA monies.Keep financial records and monitor the financial condition of the GSA.
  • Supervise and monitor the financial actives of all GSA recognized organizations.
  • Set and enforce financial policies, procedures, and guidelines for GSA recognized organizations with the approval of the Executive Board.
  • Attend and represent graduate students at Board of Trustee meetings if designated to do so by the President.
  • Attend events sponsored by the GSA whenever possible.
  • Represent the GSA at events or programs sponsored by other student organizations or college offices as deemed necessary.
  • Maintain at least one scheduled office hour per week.

Vice President of Communications

The Vice President of Communications shall have the following duties:

  • Serve as a member of the Executive Board and attend all meetings.
  • Take minutes of all Executive Board meetings and present them to the Executive Board for approval.
  • Take minutes of all general meetings and present them to the Executive Board for approval.
  • Oversee all external and internal communications of the GSA.
  • Ensure the proper dissemination of information regarding the GSA and GSA related activities to graduate students, college faculty and staff, college administrators, other organizations within the college, and outside organizations, as appropriate.
  • Monitor the communications of GSA recognized organizations.
  • Serve as a liaison to the college newspaper (The Vanguard), the college radio station (WBTY), and other media.
  • Organize and keep the permanent records of the GSA and its Executive Board including the GSA Constitution and Officer position descriptionsMaintain listings of the GSA Executive Board, GSA Committees, officers of GSA recognized organizations, and GSA representatives serving on campus-wide committees, task forces, or other committees.
  • Attend and represent graduate students at Board of Trustee meetings if designated to do so by the President.
  • Oversee the advertisement of GSA sponsored events and attend those events whenever possible. Represent the GSA at events or programs sponsored by other student organizations or college offices as deemed necessary.
  • Maintain at least one scheduled office hour per week.

Vice President of Technology

The VP of Technology shall have the following duties:

  • Work closely with the VP of Communication to make sure that for every communiquĂ© to the student body, a similar digital version will be made available for the plasma screen
  • Oversee GSA website, maintaining current data and information and ensuring that the website is up and running.
  • Serve as contact liaison for Bentley College web services and GSA sub-organization’s Page-Masters
  • Oversee programming for Plasma Screen.
  • Use PowerPoint or similar slide display program to showcase upcoming GSA/GSA Affiliate or Campus-wide activities or events.
  • Monitor television schedule and current events in order to stream important programs/speeches over Plasma Screen
  • Ensure good running condition of all pieces of electronic equipment for GSA office including but not limited to Computer, Printer/Copier/Scanner, Television, Plasma Screen, Radio, VCR and all cables and accessories associated
  • Set up and oversee online voting for GSA Executive Board elections
  • Skills Required:
    • HTML ProficiencyExperience with MS PowerPoint, MS Word, Image Editing Software
    • Familiarity with Web Design and some experience in Visual Presentation
  • General Duties:
    • Attend events sponsored by the GSA
    • Maintain office-hours as scheduled by the GSA Board

Vice President of Special Events

The Vice President of Special Events shall have the following duties:

  • Serve as a member of the Executive Board and attend all meetings.
  • Oversee the planning and coordination of all GSA sponsored events including but not limited to:
  • Bicycle tours, the GSA Golf Tournament, the Spring and Fall Orientations, guest speakers, Lunch and Dinner Connections, Master Class Breaks(?), ski trips, Grad Pub Night, and other social events.
  • Maintain records of the logistics involved with the planning and execution of each event.
  • Work with the Vice President of Operations to ensure that all the operational needs of any planned event are met.
  • Coordinate the advertisement of GSA sponsored events with the Vice President of Communications.
  • Serve on various campus-wide committees relating to student activities as designated by the President and the Executive Board.
  • Attend GSA events whenever possible.
  • Represent the GSA at events or programs sponsored by other student organizations or college offices as deemed necessary.
  • Maintain at least one scheduled office hour per week.

Vice President of Philanthropy

The Vice President of Philanthropy shall have the following duties:

  • Serve as a member of the Executive Board and attend all meetings.
  • Act as liaison to the Volunteer Center.
  • Act as liaison to the Bentley Service Learning Project (BSLP).
  • Promote the Bentley College Service Week activities and organize graduate student participation in those activities.
  • Organize graduate student participation in at least three philanthropic/community service projects per academic year in addition to the Bentley College Service Week activities.
  • Attend events sponsored by the GSA whenever possible.
  • Represent the GSA at events or programs sponsored by other student organizations or college offices as deemed necessary.
  • Maintain at least one scheduled office hour per week.

Vice President of Part-time Students

The Vice President of Part-time Students shall have the following duties:

  • Serve as a member of the Executive Board and attend all meetings.
  • Attend and represent graduate students at Bentley College and McCallum Graduate School of Business meetings if designated to do so by the President.
  • Act as a representative of the part-time graduate students by ensuring that their needs and wants are considered in any decisions made by the Executive Board.
  • Attend events sponsored by the GSA whenever possible.
  • Represent the GSA at events or programs sponsored by other student organizations or college offices as deemed necessary.
  • Preside over at least one Office Hour event per semester.

Vice President of Diversity

The Vice President of Diversity shall have the following duties:

  • Serve as a member of the Executive Board and attend all meetings.
  • Attend and represent graduate students at Bentley College and McCallum Graduate School of Business meetings if designated to do so by the President.
  • Act as a representative of the various nationalities, cultures, ethnicities, religions, and sexual orientations of the individuals who make up the graduate student body by ensuring that their needs and wants are considered in any decisions made by the Executive Board.
  • Act as a liaison to all college committees and groups relating to diversity awareness.
  • Attend events sponsored by the GSA whenever possible.
  • Represent the GSA at events or programs sponsored by other student organizations or college offices as deemed necessary.
  • Preside at least one scheduled office hour per week.
